Turkey’s Calik Enerji company with the participation of the US General Electric Company plans to complete the construction of a combined-cycle power plant in Turkmenistan’s Mary province in December 2018, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov familiarized himself with the construction of the power plant Jan. 19.

The project is implemented in the territory of the already operating regional power plant, the total capacity of which will increase twice with the commissioning of the facility. The new combined-cycle power plant designed to produce 12.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year will use not only natural gas but also steam as fuel, according to the message.

The combined-cycle power plant consists of four gas turbines, heat recovery boilers, two steam turbines and other technological facilities.

“Combined-cycle power plants are attractive in economic and environmental terms, as the volume of emissions of carbon dioxide, the combustion product, is reduced by 2-3 times,” the Turkmen news agency said.

It is expected that the implementation of the project will make it possible to meet the increasing energy needs in Turkmenistan and increase the export of electricity.
