Turkmenistan to produce over 7M tons of ore a year

The ore mining industry is taking shape in Turkmenistan as a complex for the production of potash fertilizers is being built in the Garlyk settlement of the Koytendag district of the Lebap province of Turkmenistan, the country’s State News Agency reported.

The construction of the complex, which is planned to be commissioned March 31, started in June 2009. The enterprise, which is being erected by Belgorkhimprom JSC (Belarus), is designed to produce 1.40 million tons of fertilizers per year.

The total contract value is $1.126 billion. The project is financed through the funds of the Turkmenhimiya State Concern (20 percent) and domestic bank loans (80 percent). The commissioning of the complex will create more than 1,700 jobs. The area of ​​262.5 hectares has been allotted for the complex.

In order to reach full capacity for the manufacture of fertilizers, it is planned to annually produce and process more than 7 million tons of ore, which is located at the depth of 200-1,000 meters.

“The future industrial giant is of great importance for socio-economic development of the Lebap province and the entire Turkmenistan,” the Turkmen state agency reported. “The complex will make it possible to establish the production of high quality potash fertilizers, which will satisfy the needs of the Turkmen agriculture sphere and enable the supply of these fertilizers to the global market.”
