Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and State Secretary of the Latvian Foreign Ministry Andrejs Pildegovics discussed the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Latvian cooperation Oct. 28, the Uzbek foreign ministry reported.

Pildegovics arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the opening of the international conference in Urgench entitled "Development of cooperation in the Aral Sea region to mitigate environmental catastrophe consequences".

During the meeting, the parties considered the course of implementing the agreements reached as part of Uzbek President Islam Karimov's state visit to Latvia in October 2013 and Latvian President Andris Berzins's return visit to Uzbekistan in May 2014.

It was stressed that Uzbekistan and Latvia intend to gradually develop mutually beneficial relations in the political, trade-economic, investment, transport-communication and other areas.

The two sides exchanged views on regional and international problems in the context of Latvia's upcoming presidency in the EU in the first half of 2015.

Other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.

Latvian ambassador to Uzbekistan Edgars Bondars also participated in the conversation.
