Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan at its meeting, chaired by the country’s President Islam Karimov, discussed the situation at the country’s southern borders, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) reported.

The issues on ensuring security and the neutralization of threats and challenges at Uzbekistan’s southern borders, the strengthening of cooperation with neighboring states in the region as part of the fight against terrorism and extremism were discussed during the meeting.

Heads of government and relevant agencies participated at the meeting.

Uzbekistan is bordered by five countries: Kazakhstan to the north; Tajikistan to the southeast; Kyrgyzstan to the northeast; Afghanistan to the south; and Turkmenistan to the southwest.
