The National Iranian Copper Industries Company's managing director said his company's development plans will make Iran the seventh biggest copper cathode producer within four years.
Copper cathode is more than 99 per cent pure copper used to make copper wire, tubes and other products.
Iran's standing in copper cathode production is twenty-second in the world today, said Ardeshir Saad Mohammadi, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reports.
The company head said National Iranian Copper has invested more than $10 billion in development plans to move Iran's copper industry forward. Mr Saad Mohammadi noted that his company is and has been dedicated to protecting the environment whilst on the way to achieving lasting development.
A February report by ISNA said the National Iranian Copper Industries was Iran's biggest industrial exporter in 2010/2011 with $1.3 billion in sales.
