Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi has recently said that the country has achieved great success in unmanned drone manufacturing, IRIB NEWS reported.

Vahidi noted that Iran has established an unmanned drone manufacturing line, similar to the captured RQ-170 drone, however these are being manufactured with more control and safety in mind.

In December of 2011, Iranian Army's electronic warfare unit downed the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225km) from the Afghan border.

Two days later, two US officials speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the drone had been part of a CIA reconnaissance mission, involving the US intelligence community stationed in Afghanistan.

Vahidi said that at the moment the production of the new drones in Iran is looking even better, with new technologies being applied.

IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said on Dec. 17, that Iran has established an unmammed aircrafts production line in the country.

Referring to the unmanned Scan Eagle UAV type drone, Fadavi said the established production line would be producing drones similar to the Scan Eagle drone.

Noting that the Scan Eagle is a purely tactical drone capable of recording 1,5 million hours, Fadavi added that Iran has previously captured two Scan Eagle drones, and has fully extracted all their data.

On Nov. 25 Iran issued a warning against the repeated violations of its airspace by US drones and the illegal moves of US Navy warships in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman.
