Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept.27

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran and Turkey can boost cooperation in the plastic industry, Huseyin Semerci, the President of Turkish Plastics Industrialists Association, said.

"The Iranian market is very attractive for us," he said, Iran's Shana news agency reported on September 27.

However, no agreement has been signed between the two countries to expand cooperation in this sector, he added.

Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said on August 2 that Turkey and Iran seek to increase their trade volume to $35 billion by 2015.

The Turkish economy minister added that Tehran and Ankara have recently signed a preferential trade agreement to facilitate bilateral trade.

Iran and Turkey signed 10 economic agreements during a visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the head of a high-ranking delegation to Turkey in June.

The trade turnover between Iran and Turkey in the first half of 2014 stood at $6.5 billion, according to data released by Turkish Statistical Institute.

The trade turnover between Turkey and Iran stood at $22 billion in 2012 before dipping to $14.5 billion in the following year due to the economic sanctions imposed on Tehran by the West.
