Major currencies fall in Iran’s free market

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Exchange rates of US dollar, euro, and pound fell in Iran's free market on Jan. 24.

US dollar was sold at the price of 34,540 rials in the free market on Jan. 24, compared to 34,580 rials on Jan.22.

Euro and British pound were also presented at the prices of 39,690 rials and 52,760 rials, compared to 40,620 rials and 52,830 rials respectively on Jan. 22, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Jan. 24.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iran has put the official exchange rate of US dollar, euro, and British pound at 27,455 rials, 30,768 rials, and 41,162 rials, respectively.

Iran's national currency, the rial, lost about 50 percent of its foreign exchange value in less than a week in October 2012, standing at 35,500 versus the dollar. It was close to 10,000 in early 2011. The government has set the 28,500 rials price for the free market but the brokers refuse to trade dollar at the mentioned price.
