Iranian private sector to invest $180M in bunkering by March 2016

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The Iranian private sector will invest $180 million in bunkering (fueling ships) by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 2016), said Mohammad Saeednejad, the managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran.

Bunkering to ships sailing in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman is carried out via Shahid Rajaee Port, Iran 's Fars news agency quoted Saeednejad as saying April 28.

The organization will establish infrastructures and carry out dredging operations and the private sector will establish fuel tanks, he said.

For the time being, pipelining operations are implemented, he noted.

Iran bunkered over 3 million metric tons of fuel to ships sailing through the Persian Gulf in the first ten months of the past Iranian calendar year (March 2, 2014 - Jan. 20, 2015).

Three million metric tons of fuel oil and 107,000 metric tons of gas oil were supplied to ships in the 10-month period.

Bunkering of fuel oil and gas oil rose 30 percent year on year, Mohammad Reza Mazloumi, an official with the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, said, adding that $1.35 billion of fuel oil and $96.3 million of gas oil were supplied to ships in the 10-month period.
