Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 5

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Water bills in Iran rose between 10 percent and 30 percent based on the volume of consumption.

The cabinet approved 10 percent rise for less than 15 cubic meters of consumption per month, 15 percent rise for 15- 20 cubic meters of consumption per month, 20 percent rise for 20- 40 cubic meters of consumption per month, and 30 percent rise for over 40 cubic meters of consumption per month, Iran's Fars news agency reported Oct. 5.

Water bills for non-household uses also rose by 20 percent.

Based on the national budget bill for the current Iranian fiscal year (March 2015-March 2016), water bills for villages will be calculated as 50 percent of the rate for the nearest city.

Officials of the Iranian Energy Ministry say increasing water bills is one of the possible ways for curbing high consumption in the country.
