Iran is going to use Chinese expertise to launch a fiber-optic service provider, Iranian ITC Minister Mahmoud Vaezi said.

The minister said Iran and China have launched a joint committee to work post-sanctions agendas, ISNA news agency reported January 23.

He added that during the meeting with his counterpart the previous day, Iranian and Chinese sides reviewed the terms of cooperation between China and Iran in the new economic era.

Accordingly, Chinese companies are going to help Iran stretch a fiber-optic network to Iranian homes, he said.

Vaezi added he and his counterpart had signed an MoU stressing R&D, infrastructure development, etc.

Accordingly, Chinese company Huawei will open a data center in Iran in order to extend it services to the public and private sectors.

Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to Iran January 22 and is the first head of state visiting Iran since sanctions were lifted on Tehran.

The value of trade transactions between Tehran and Beijing stood at some $52 billion in 2014. However, the figure dropped in 2015 due to decreasing oil prices.
