Iran to yearly import 10,000 commercial cars

Iran is expected to import 10,000 commercial cars a year by 2025.

Based on the country’s 20-year economic development plan, Iran’s demand for commercial cars will amount to 100,000 vehicles per year, ISNA news agency reported Oct. 27.

It is expected that 90,000 cars will be manufactured domestically per year by 2025, meanwhile 10,000 commercial vehicles will be imported from abroad.

According to Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade’s plans, the country’s annual car output should reach three million by 2025, one third of which is expected to be exported.

Iranian car makers’ total output over the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2016) stood at 579,776 cars, indicating a 15.6-percent rise year-on-year.

Sedans accounted for 534,402 of the output with a production growth rate of 16.1 percent, while pick-ups’ output grew by 11.5 percent to hit 38,815.

In the meantime, the country’s bus output increased by 21.2 percent to reach 435 vehicles.

Iranian car manufacturers also produced 388 minibuses (a 17.6-percent increase) and 5,736 trucks (a 1.5-percent increase) during the six-month period.
