Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the Tehran-Jakarta mutual ties in the field of energy are strategic.

He made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo, the state-run IRINN TV reported Dec. 14.

Iran will meet the needs of Indonesia in terms of crude oil, liquefied gas and petrochemical products, Rouhani said.

He added that there is a good potential for boosting mutual economic cooperation, in particular in engineering and technical services.

Rouhani expressed Iran’s readiness for construction of power plants, dams and water and waste water treatment plants, adding that Indonesia is also ready to undertake oil and gas projects in Iran.

Iran and Indonesia cooperation will benefit both countries and will contribute to stability and security in the region as well as the Islamic world, Rouhani said.

Iran and Indonesia have boosted ties in all fields after years-long hiatus, the Iranian president said, adding that the bilateral ties have witnessed improvement since his 2015 visit to Indonesia and following the conclusion of nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers that year.

Iran and Indonesia will deepen ties in technology sector as well, in particular in nanotechnology, Rouhani said.

Indonesian president, heading a high ranking politico-economic delegation, arrived in Tehran on December 13 to confer with Iranian senior officials.

The trip is aimed at boosting cooperation in oil and gas sector.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo is to meet with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani as well.
