Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Yemeni people will not give up in the face of air strikes, calling for ceasefire and end of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition's military operation.

He called the military operation a wrong option which has already failed in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, warning the countries involved in the coalition of the sequences of their approach towards Yemen.

"Let's prepare a ground for Yemeni-Yemeni talks," Rouhani said, underscoring that the Yemeni people should decide their own future.

"We call all regional countries for friendship, brotherhood and establishing peace and security," Rouhani said addressing a ceremony in Tehran, Iranian state-run IRINN TV reported live on April 9.

He further demanded the regional countries to cooperate for establishing ceasefire and help Yemeni people.

Rouhani also criticized the US due to its support for the coalition's air strikes in Yemen.

An international military operation kicked off on March 26 in Yemen against Iran-backed Shiite group (Ansarullah), with involvement of the armed forces of a number of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia.

The Shiite rebels have taken control of several cities and are assaulting the port of Aden, where Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had been based before fleeing to Riyadh.

Iran denies accusations that it gives military assistance to the Shiite group.
