Three Palestinians have been killed in confrontations with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank Al Jazeera reported.

Officials and witnesses on Saturday said at least one of those killed was a fighter from Hamas, Reuters news agency reported.

A Palestinian official told the AP news agency that the military surrounded the house of a wanted Hamas soldier in the Jenin refugee camp overnight and ordered him outside. When he refused to come out, the army stormed the building and killed him.

Hundreds of angry residents and gunmen then attacked the soldiers.

Officials said two young Palestinian men died in the subsequent fighting.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Israel periodically raids parts of the West Bank to arrest those suspected of involvement in violence against Israel.

The clashes in the northern West Bank area of Jenin erupted three days after Israeli troops killed a Palestinian youth elsewhere in the West Bank.

Palestinian officials said before Saturday's incident that Israeli forces had killed 57 Palestinians and injured almost 900 since the resumption of peace talks last July.

The US-brokered negotiations have shown little progress as an April deadline set by US Secretary of State John Kerry looms.

The talks aim to achieve Palestinian statehood alongside Israel in territory Israel captured in a 1967 war.
