The U.S.-Azerbaijan cooperation in security is strong in broad sense and it is getting stronger, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza told journalists on Saturday.

"I am deeply grateful to Azerbaijan for protecting our embassy, our families from serious terrorist threats," he said.

Bryza said he also discussed with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev the two countries' developing plans to work together to counter the risks that the Azerbaijani energy infrastructure in the Caspian Sea faces.

"I provided some details of a trip of senior Azerbaijani officials to the United States, which will take place on Monday, to explore how to deal with such treats to our energy infrastructure," he added.

"I also discussed a $9.4-million assistance that the U.S. government is going now to provide to Azerbaijan for the special forces operating in the Caspian Sea, Bryza said.

He said the funds are allocated for equipment and trainings, as well as the activities that are completely focused on the Caspian Sea itself.
