Azerbaijan, Baku, April 9 / Trend M. Aliyev /

It is time to sign an agreement on the mutual protection of investments between Azerbaijan and Russia, head of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said.

"The signing of agreements on mutual protection of investments will increase investment activity," Matvienko told media in Baku after a meeting with Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov. "This will be a very strong support for the business. This means risk reduction and extra protection."

She said the further development of cooperation was discussed at the meeting, taking into account the expansion of contacts of relevant parliamentary committees.

"These are the issues of accelerated preparation of necessary legislative acts to ensure more effective cooperation at the regional and border level," Matvienko said.

She said the two sides are also interested in cooperation in the environmental field, including resolving the environmental issues of the Caspian Sea. Environmental cooperation will be discussed at the fifth International Ecological Congress, to will be held under the auspices of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in May.

The dialogue was also continued to develop the inter-parliamentary cooperation. This is a very important part of inter-state relations, developing as relations of strategic partners in all areas. The parliaments of both countries also play a very important role,
Matvienko said.
