The Senate of the Kazakh Parliament hosted a meeting of MPs led by Senate Speaker Kasim Jomart Tokaev with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Feb. 12.

During the meeting Kasim Jomart Tokayev stressed the importance of this visit for further strengthening bilateral relations and the significance of implementing the agreement reached during Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to Turkey in October 2009.

Touching upon inter-parliamentary cooperation the speaker voiced his support to intensifying a dialogue within the frames of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Countries. Recalling the common history and culture of Turkic-speaking countries Tokayev appreciated the potential of the Parliamentary Assembly in further intensification of interaction and relations among the Turkic nations.

"We have enormous opportunities for cooperation under global forums such as Congress of world and traditional religions leaders and the Alliance of Civilizations," the speaker said.

Interaction in advancing inter-civilized and global inter-religious dialogue will promote safety and stability worldwide, he says.

Touching upon tolerance which is one of the priorities of OSCE Kazakh presidency, Tokayev said this spring Almaty will host Transasian parliamentary forum on "Eurasian dimension of OSCE".

Davutoglu appraised Kazakhstan's achievements under President Nazarbayev's leadership and supported further intensification of bilateral relations.

"Agreement on strategic partnership brought the Kazakh-Turkish cooperation to a qualitatively new level," Davutoglu said.

The inter-parliamentary ties are an important direction of bilateral relations, Davutoglu said.

"Friendship between parliamentarians of fraternal nations is very important in intensification of cooperation between our two countries," Davutoglu added. .
