Officials May Sponsor among Human Trafficking – Azerbaijani Deputy Internal Minister(video)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / It has been revealed that victims of human trafficking are sent from Azerbaijan to Turkey, United Arab Emirates, India and Iran, the Deputy Internal Minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Eyvazov stated on 11 December.

Most human trafficking victims were women aged 18 to 40 years old. The women are brought over from Middle Asia, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova to Azerbaijan and then transported to other countries.

In 2006 and 2007 there have not been any juveniles amongst the human trafficking victims, Eyvazov said. There were no juvenile trafficking cases in 2004 and one was registered in 2005.

Although there were no state officials amongst those accused of being involved in human trafficking, Eyvazov said there were well-known persons amongst the accused.

Sixty-five human trafficking cases have been registered during the eleven months of 2007. Criminal proceedings were instituted against 95 people. About 900 victims of human trafficking have been revealed from 2004 to 2006 and most of them were returned back to their native land.
