Ilham Aliyev: wide reforms conducted in Azerbaijan to ease customs procedures

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya.
President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan and the World Customs Organization maintain successful cooperation and noted that a number of practical steps have been made in the country to modernize the customs system. Emphasizing the importance of the customs service in terms of economy and security, the head of state said wide reforms have been conducted in Azerbaijan to ease customs procedures. President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan hosted a number of events addressing customs service, underlining the significance of the fact that the World Customs Organization's 10th PICARD (Partnerships in Customs Academic Research and Development) conference will be held in Baku.

Private investments to ensure high growth of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan - World Bank

The World Bank expects 4 percent growth of non-oil sector of Azerbaijan in 2015 the WB expert Nadir Ramazanov said at the IV annual Azerbaijan conference organized by the Fitch Ratings rating agency in Baku. Earlier, the World Bank forecasted that the non-oil sector would increase by 3.8 percent by late 2015.

The expert said that the WB links expectations of serious growth in the non-oil sector of the economy to private investments, but this requires reforms and the process may take a long time.

Azerbaijan, San Marino mull possibilities of co-op in various spheres

The documents signed between Azerbaijan and San Marino on avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and on capital will have a positive impact on the development of their relations, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev said during the meeting with Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs of San Marino Pasquale Valentini in Baku. The minister said that the draft agreement on mutual protection and promotion of investments between Azerbaijan and San Marino is under discussion. He also talked about the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of agriculture, industry, petrochemistry, tourism, ICT and alternative energy.

Azerbaijan ready to continue supporting Afghanistan

Azerbaijan is ready to continue supporting fraternal Afghanistan in developing the transport, energy, information and communication technologies, Ashraf Shikhaliyev, the head of the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AİDA) under the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, said, the ministry said. Shikhaliyev made this statement during his visit to Afghanistan. He said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and new Baku International Sea Trade Port will create favorable opportunities for Afghanistan to enter the world markets.

Fitch says no further devaluation expected in Azerbaijan

Fitch Ratings international rating agency doesn't expect further devaluation of Azerbaijan's national currency (manat), Dmitry Vasiliev, director of the agency's Financial Institutions said in an exclusive interview with Trend.

Nevertheless, he believes that given the low oil prices, certain risks remain for Azerbaijan.

As distinct from Azerbaijan, other CIS countries faced a deeper devaluation, however, in the case of Azerbaijan Fitch doesn't consider this as a baseline scenario, according to the expert. "It is difficult to estimate the probability [of the repeated devaluation], but we can say that today, it is below 50 percent," said Vasiliev.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan for a working visit aimed at attending the Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States.

Tehran may hold meeting of state commission on Azerbaijan-Iran cooperation

Iran has offered to hold the tenth meeting of the state commission on Azerbaijan-Iran cooperation in economic, trade and humanitarian spheres in Tehran. Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayin presented the proposal during a meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev.

Pak Ayin said that the issues of cooperation in the field of mutual investment after the lifting of sanctions against Iran were discussed, and stressed the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of alternative energy, mining, petroleum engineering and the banking sector.
