Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January 2017)

Agricultural enterprises, private entrepreneurs and households have been engaged in spring field work in Azerbaijan since January 2017.

For this purpose, agrotechnical measures are carried out on the fields and the necessary agricultural machinery is used.

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 252 million manat in Azerbaijan in January 2017, which is by 3.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report, the livestock production increased by 2.9 percent and reached 246 million manat, crop production – 33.2 percent and reached 6 million manat in the reporting period.

So, grain crops are planned to be harvested from a 950,000-hectare area in 2017. A ​​623,500-hectare-area (65.6 percent of the total sown area) accounted for wheat, 326,300 hectares (34.3 percent) - for barley and the remaining 0,200 hectares (0.1 percent) - for other cereals.

Some 6,000 tons of vegetables were harvested from closed land plots in Azerbaijan in January 2017, which is by almost twofold more than in January 2016. The production of livestock products increased in January 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.

So, 38,100 tons of meat in live weight, 150,200 tons of milk, 145.3 million pieces of eggs were produced in the country in January 2017.

Meat production increased by 3.4 percent, milk production by 2 percent, egg production - by 2.9 percent in January 2017 compared to January 2016.

As of January 1, 2017, 8,400 heads of cattle and 27,500 heads of sheep and goats were kept in breeding farms.

The timely zootechnic and veterinary measures, as well as the work aimed at improving the cattle breeds had a positive impact on the dynamic development of livestock.
