The U.S. Transit Center, located at the international airport "Manas", invested $142 million in the Kyrgyz economy in 2102, website of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan reports.
According to the report, the exact amount of investments in 2012 was $142.078 million.
Some $60 million of this amount was contributed to the Government, $4.4 million accounted for rent, permits and utilities. The payment for the landing, parking and maintenance was $21.3 million . Some $20.65 million was spent to improve the infrastructure. Contractors were paid more than $31 million.
The Transit Centre, formerly called the air base was opened at Manas international airport in late 2001. The centre is a major logistics hub for transportation of goods and the antiterrorist coalition forces to Afghanistan. An agreement on deploying U.S. air base in Kyrgyzstan is valid until 2014.
