The preparation for the complete census of the population and housing fund is under completion in Turkmenistan. According to the presidential decree on "Preparing and conducting the complete census of population and housing fund of 2012", it will be held from Dec. 15-26, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan said on Tuesday.
"The census will be conducted in accordance with Turkmenistan's international obligations," the statement said. "The data will be included in a global census of the population."
The Turkmen State Statistics Committee carried out considerable complex preparatory work of the legal, organizational, methodological and logistical nature required for a successful census. The lists of buildings, premises and households were made.
The first phase of the census of the population living in remote, inaccessible areas and areas of transhumance started in Turkmenistan in mid. September and will run till Sept. 24.
The main stage will be held within the UN initiatives on census in UN member-states from 2005 to 2014.
The census will be conducted in 365 settlements and transhumance areas, located in 28 areas of all provinces in the country.
Besides employees of statistics bodies, teachers, medical staff, representatives of local and regional administration have been involved.
The Geographic Information System will be used.
