Cigarettes worth $16.9 million have been imported into Iran during the first two months of the current solar year (which began on March 20), according to the latest statistics of Iranian Customs Administration.
The imported cigarettes amounted to around 1,467 tons in weight, the ISNA News Agency reported, saying that Switzerland, South Korea and the UAE were the main exporters of cigarettes to Iran.
According to ISNA, the Iranians smoke more than 60 billion cigarettes per year, a major portion of which is smuggled into the country.
