MP: Iran, G5+1 willing to reach comprehensive nuclear deal

Iran and G5+1 member states are willing to reach a comprehensive nuclear deal, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Majlis (Parliament) national security and foreign policy commission said on Sunday, IRNA reported.

Speaking to reporters, he noted that extension of Geneva Interim Agreement deadline in six rounds of talks in Vienna conveyed this message to the worldˈs public opinion that the two sides have the desire for reaching a comprehensive final nuclear agreement.

Boroujerdi noted that Iranˈs position will never change regarding its nuclear rights enshrined in the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He voiced hope that the US would give up its excessive demands in order to reach a final nuclear deal in the upcoming talks.

Iranˈs offers to the G5+1 member states in six rounds of nuclear talks in Vienna are the countryˈs minimum demands, the senior MP underlined.

US officials should know that if Iran and G5+1 do not reach a final nuclear agreement, Tehran will continue its nuclear progress based on the NPT rules and will revive its 20 percent uranium enrichment program, activate Arak heavy water reactor and install new generation of its centrifuges, Boroujerdi added.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council- the US, France, Britain, Russia and China - plus Germany have agreed on the extension of talks until November 24 with a view to achieving a permanent deal that would end the decade-old dispute over Iran's nuclear energy program.

The two sides signed an interim deal in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 23, 2013, for a six-month period. The deal, which took effect on January 20, expired today.

Under the deal, dubbed the Geneva Joint Plan of Action, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.
