A UN human rights commission said on Monday that it had not made any conclusions on the suspected use of chemical weapons in Syria, after commission member Carla del Ponte told a broadcaster there were indications that rebels had used sarin gas, DPA reported.

"The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic wishes to clarify that it has not reached conclusive findings as to the use of chemical weapons in Syria by any parties to the conflict," the Geneva-based expert panel said.

The commission added that it would not comment further on del Ponte remarks in a television interview on Sunday.
