BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 1. Aydin Safikhanli, Head of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, attended the General Assembly of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) in Brussels and participated in a seminar titled "The Role and Functions of National Human Rights Institutions in Armed Conflicts," Trend reports.
Safikhanli highlighted Armenia's severe breaches of international law and humanitarian law during its 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories. He discussed Armenia’s "mine terror," noting that landmines planted on Azerbaijani land pose a significant threat to civilian life and hinder the return of former internally displaced persons. Additionally, he underscored that approximately 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing during the first Karabakh war, with their whereabouts still unknown.
The head of the office also mentioned that factual reports on the aftermath of Armenian aggression, compiled by the Ombudsman’s office, have been submitted to international organizations, foreign ombudsmen, and national human rights institutions.
