BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 1. Since the establishment of the Border Control Command in 2017, authorities have apprehended 26,865 individuals wanted by the law and referred them to the relevant state agencies, Elshan Verdiyev, Head of Border Control Command of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan said during a media briefing held at the command in Baku today, Trend reports.

In total, 86,123 operational tasks have been carried out, according to Verdiyev.

He noted that decisions had been made regarding 58,503 individuals lacking the necessary documentation to cross the state border.

"Additionally, 2,106 foreign nationals have been denied entry into the country for various reasons as 'undesirable persons'.

The estimated value of contraband detected and seized in operations aimed at combating smuggling and drug trafficking amounted to 442.2 million manat ($260.1 million). In the fight against drug-related crimes, authorities detected and confiscated 7,422.4 kilograms of narcotics across 1,028 cases, along with 86,246 units of psychotropic tablets removed from illegal circulation,” Verdiyev added.
