BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 1. Azerbaijani Parliament's Speaker Sahiba Gafarova met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan, Mikhail Evdokimov, Trend reports via the parliament's press service.
The meeting highlighted the high level of development in bilateral relations, emphasizing the significant role of mutual visits by heads of state in strengthening ties. During the discussion, the progress made between the legislative bodies of the two countries was noted, as well as successful cooperation in several international parliamentary organizations. Both sides expressed optimism for continued collaboration in the future.
The meeting also addressed preparations for COP29, the 29th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It was confirmed that the Russian Federation plans to participate at a high level in both COP29 and the accompanying parliamentary conference. The importance of avoiding politicization of this crucial international event was underscored, and Azerbaijan's contributions to addressing global issues were highly appreciated.
During the conversation, biased documents adopted by the European Parliament concerning Azerbaijan and the organization's anti-Azerbaijan activities were criticized.
Sahiba Gafarova stated that these actions by the European Parliament do not align with the spirit of parliamentarism, and Azerbaijan categorically rejects the subjective and one-sided resolutions that distort reality. She emphasized the importance of objective opinions and dialogue in parliamentary relations.
