European Union member states have agreed not to supply Egypt with weapons that could be used for repressing political opponents, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said, dpa reported.
The member states would "suspend export licences to Egypt of any equipment which might be used for internal repression," foreign ministers agreed at talks in Brussels. The final decisions would be taken at national level, not by the EU as a whole, Ashton said.
The ministers agreed to review the EU's financial assistance to Egypt, Ashton said. She added that assistance to the most vulnerable groups and civil society "must continue."
