By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Azerbaijan's initiative for the construction of the Trans-Eurasia Information Superhighway (TASIM) will be presented at the annual thirteenth International Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies for the Caspian and Black Sea regions and the CIS countries "Caspian Telecoms- 2014", the head of the TASIM project team Zaur Hasanov told Trend on March 31.

"Caspian Telecoms- 2014" conference will be held in Istanbul on April 24-25.

Hasanov will deliver a report at the conference.

Hasanov's report will include the TASIM project advantages, having great regional importance and is intended to connect Europe with Asia.

The TASIM project was given by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as a key example of regional cross-border terrestrial communication.

The cost of the TASIM project construction will hit $ 100 million. The project cost is preliminary. It may be adjusted after a number of aspects are coordinated according to the estimates. The investments will be equally distributed between the project participants.

Currently, TASIM project involves such countries as Russia (Rostelecom operator), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom operator), Turkey (TurkTelecom operator), China (China Telecom operator). In this project Azerbaijan is represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies.

A principle agreement on the project implementation is expected to be signed by mid-year, Hasanov said earlier. The agreement will define the business model of the project, the way of traffic management, investment and income distribution and so on. The agreement will also resolve the issue of laying the Caspian cable main line segment, which is part of the project.

The project aims to reduce poverty, accelerate economic growth, and can also play a leading role in the development of the region.

TASIM project is intended to connect a total of 20 countries. Its implementation will eliminate the information gap between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
