Georgian government's delegation and president do not intend to participate in the activities planned to be held in Sochi, the Georgian president's foreign policy adviser, Vano Machavariani told journalists on Feb. 6.

"This is the official position of the country's leadership and I believe it is unreasonable to comment on the statement of the Russian president's spokesperson and your questions," he told journalists.

Machavariani said the statement by the Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson about a possible meeting with Georgian president in Sochi was spread by various news agencies and came to the government "in a somewhat different interpretation".

"Our position on this issue is unequivocal - Georgia's official delegation will not be represented in Sochi," Machavariani stressed.

Earlier, the Georgian president's press office also denied reports about Giorgi Margvelashvili visit to Sochi.

"The visit of the Georgian president to Sochi is not being considered. This issue is not on the agenda. The presidential administration has not received any invitations, and accordingly the president's visit is not planed," head of the Georgian president's press-service, Tiko Mzhavanadze told journalists.

Earlier Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov did not rule out that Vladimir Putin may meet with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in Sochi.
