Georgia is making every effort to implement the necessary democratic reforms in the country and become closer to the EU countries, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in Tbilisi on March 27 at the opening of an international conference on Georgia's economic integration with the EU.

"We must have clear perspectives on the way of integration with Europe because it is difficult to work unilaterally without them," he said.

Garibashvili said Georgia is ready to not only be a neighbour of the EU, but also to move further towards the Union.

"We will continue moving towards European integration, as well as conducting further reforms," he said. "Striving to become a member of a united Europe is the choice of the Georgian people and the government realises this desire."

A two-day international conference on Georgia's economic integration with the EU opened in Tbilisi on March 27. The event was organised by the office of Georgian State Minister for Integration into European and Euro-Atlantic Structures and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Representatives of the executive and legislative bodies of Georgia, officials of the EU countries and the Eastern Partnership programme member-states, representatives of international financial institutions, business circles and NGOs attended the conference.
