At least 10 Americans died Sunday in Hurricane Sandy, most from falling trees, news reports said.

Half the deaths were reported in New York state, four of them from falling trees and one from electrocution, state and city officials said. Four of those deaths were in New York City, DPA reported.

The storm sank the HMS Bounty, a replica of the British ship on which a famous 1789 South Pacific mutiny occurred, killing one crew member and leaving the captain missing. The remaining 14 crew were rescued off North Carolina.

Two people were killed in New Jersey when a tree fell onto their car and a tree killed another person in Connecticut.

A woman in West Virginia died when her car hit a cement truck on a snow-covered road.
