Tbilisi, Georgia, Sept.19

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Tbilisi City Court seized the property of ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili at the request of the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, the lawyer of ex-president Otar Kahidze told reporters Sept.19.

In addition, the court also seized the property of the First Lady, as well as his mother and grandmother.

Kahidze called the decision illegal, since the ex-president wasn't accused of misappropriation but of embezzlement, and therefore the reasons for the seizure are not clear. "We have received a court order on seize at the request of the prosecution, but the court's decision contains no explanation for the decision made," he said.

The lawyer also expressed surprise that the court order has no reasons for the decision in respect of the property of the mother and grandmother of the ex-president. "It seems like a simple settling the score," he said.

Kahidze also said that the decision was made by the court in secret, the family was not aware of it.

The issue of appeal of the decision in the Strasbourg Court of Human Rights is being considered now, because, according to the law in Georgia, the court's decision can not be challenged, the lawyer said.
