During a visit to Germany, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania met with German counterpart Ursula von der Leyen.

The sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the military sphere, further plans, as well as joint participation of Georgian and German servicemen in "Resolute support" mission in Afghanistan from 2015, the Georgian defense ministry said Oct. 31.

Alasania thanked the German side for assistance in the development of military education system and expressed the hope that the fruitful cooperation will continue in the future.

Particular attention was paid to the assistance in the implementation of the NATO-Georgia special package. The sides also discussed the security issues in the region and the world.

As part of his three-day visit to Germany, Alasania met with the Georgian servicemen. These servicemen are trained at the Wildflecken military base.

Alasania also met with Lieutenant-General Hans-Werner Fritz.

This is Alasania's first visit to Germany in the history of independent Georgia.
