Deputy Interior Minister: Israel will protect its borders, but not going to attack Syria

Israel is not going to attack Syria, even given the delivery of Russian S-300 in this country, Israel's Deputy Interior Minister Faina Kirshenbaum told reporters on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported.

She was commenting on a view expressed by American expert Wayne White, who suggested that given the Syrians receive such missile systems, Israel will try to destroy them.

"This is speculation of experts; we have no interest in attacking Syria. Israel can only defend its borders," Kirshenbaum said, adding that Israel is anxiously following what is happening in Syria.

Speaking of withdrawal of Austrian peacekeepers from the border with Syria, the deputy head of the Interior Ministry said this issue concerns her a lot. "Since they were one of the best forces present at our borders," Kirshinbaum said.

She expressed hope that the UN will find enough forces to replace the Austrians.
