A U.S. helicopter made an emergency landing after being fired on by insurgents with a rocket-propelled grenade in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, but no one was seriously hurt, a military press officer said, Reuters reported.

Captain Elizabeth Mathias said the helicopter was damaged in the dawn incident in Nangarhar province near the eastern border with Pakistan.

"It did land due to enemy fire. Light injuries. None killed. Nothing severe," she said.

The 100,000-strong international force in Afghanistan depends on helicopters for access to remote areas.
