Bus crash in Pakistan: 22 dead, 50 injured (UPDATE)

00:31(GMT+4) Death toll in bus crash in Pakistan has reached 22 people, 50 people have been hospitalized, RIA Novosti reported.

22:20(GMT+4) At least 16 people have been killed after a bus carrying a wedding party fell into a ravine in a remote hilly area of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, France Press reported.

Twenty-nine others were injured, six critically, and local authorities warned the death toll could rise.

"A bus [was] carrying around 50 people, who were going to attend a wedding ceremony, from Palandari to Hajira when it fell into a ravine," local police chief Hassan Qayum said.

"At least 16 people have died while 29 others are injured, six of whom are in [a] critical condition."

The bride and groom were not on the bus, local senior official Ibrar Azam said.

The accident happened about 108 kilometres north-east of Islamabad in the Janjal Hill area of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan has one of the world's worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
