Turkey's confectionery industry intends to strengthen its position in the Russian market, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported.

The food and drink industry exhibition World Food Moscow 2014 (WFM) involved 36 companies, which occupy a leading position in Turkey.

Reportedly, the unstable situation in neighboring Arab countries had a negative impact on exports to these countries.

The newspaper also said the Turkish confectionery companies will take advantage of the fact that the EU, the U.S. and some other countries have imposed a range of sanctions against Russia.

The export of confectionery from Turkey in 2013 exceeded $2.5 billion, according to statistics.

The main importers of Turkish confectionery are the countries of the Middle East.
