The United States is not worried that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan might lead to a weakening of Washington’s relationship with Ankara, US Department of State spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said in a briefing on Tuesday, Sputnik News İnternational reported.
“I don’t think it is a question at all that our relationship with Turkey would be… weakened at all by this,” Trudeau stated when asked if discussions between Putin and Erdogan might affect US relations with Ankara.
Earlier in the day, Putin met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in St. Petersburg for first talks to reset bilateral relations after the November 2015 downing of a Russian aircraft by Turkey.
