A public prayer in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held in the cathedral mosque of the Islamic Center in Washington on Dec.11, Press Service of Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. said.
Then, funeral repast was given after the Friday prayer.
The Islamic Center is located in the centre of Washington, in the famous Embassy Row.
A charitable action in favor of the poor American war veterans was also held in memory of Azerbaijani National leader. This event was organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan with the participation of the Office of military attaché of Azerbaijan and United States Veterans Initiative.
A meeting of representatives of the Azerbaijani embassy in the U.S. with a group of American schoolchildren, who study in the Brookland school of the district of Columbia, and members of the Program sponsored by the schools of Washington, was timed to the Day of Memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Children have prepared colourful stands devoted to Azerbaijan by arrival of guests. Azerbaijani diplomats showed them a film about Heydar Aliyev's life and activity, his role in the establishment of the Azerbaijan Republic. The film was of American schoolchildren's interest. During the discussions many of them drew an analogy with the role played by the first president of their country - George Washington - in the establishment of the United States of America.
Children also asked numerous questions about Azerbaijan, on the history of the country, the ruling President of the Republic, Azerbaijani culture, language, customs and traditions.
The representatives of the Embassy gave to all participants DVDs about the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and other videos about Azerbaijan after the meeting.
