( dpa )- Four farm labourers died Tuesday in south-western Nigeria after eating a meal served by their employer, according to Oyo state police spokeswoman Olabisi Okuwobi .

She said that the four labourers were brought to Nigeria from neighbouring Benin by Abiodun Salako to work as labourers on his farm in Oretu village in Oyo state.

Tragedy struck when the four labourers , Anfosi Popo , 15, Benson Kojo , 25, and two middle-aged men identified as Kwesi and Korido , slumped over, writhing in pain, after a meal of corn flour served to them by Salako after the day's job.

Okuwobi said that the four labourers died before any medical aid could reach them. A fifth labourer , whose name was unknown, was rescued by neighbours who rushed him to a hospital in Oyo town.

Police had removed the four bodies for autopsy at a hospital in the state capital, Ibadan .

A cooking pot with the leftover dish of corn flour, a pot of soup and the remaining bag of raw corn flour in Salako's possession had been seized and taken for forensic examination, Okuwobi said.
