UN Security Council should immediately intervene in the settlement process in Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said, Anadolu agency reported on Thursday.

According to him, the repeated firing of Turkish border by the Syrian side indicates that the situation in this country is a threat for Turkish citizens.

He also noted that, the time for stopping bloodshed in Syria has come. If the UN Security Council does not do this, then it will lose significance, Davutoglu said.

Turkish Armed Forces responded to the firing from the Syrian side on July 17, the report posted on the official website of Turkish General Stuff said.

According to the report, the Ceylanpinar district of Turkish Shanliurfa province was subjected to fire from the Syrian side. The Turkish Army opened return fire.

Fierce fighting was taking place on Wednesday on the Turkish-Syrian border between the Syrian branch of PKK terrorist organization and extremist militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra organization.

Local authorities urged Turkish citizens to be more cautious and stay away from the border.

The clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000 people. The Syrian authorities say that they are opposed by well-armed militants.
