Fifth Meeting of GUAM Foreign Ministers to Take Place in Madrid Today

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Ramazanova / The 5th meeting of the GUAM Foreign Ministers, who arrived in the Spanish capital to participate in the 15th meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers, will take place in Madrid on 29 November, the Spokesman for Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim said from Madrid by telephone on 29 November.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, who will also participate in the meeting, will today hold bilateral negotiations with Finland's Foreign Minister Ilka Kanerva and the OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut. On 30 November, Mammadyarov will speak at the meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
