Turkmenistan appoints representative to Organization of Islamic Conference

Head of the Turkmen diplomatic mission to Saudi Arabia Abalakov was made the country's permanent representative to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) by presidential decree.

Abalakov graduated from the Textile Institute in Ivanovo, Russia. He worked as finance and economics minister in the mid-1990s and vice prime minister and manager of the presidential staff. Abalakov began his diplomatic career as an ambassador in early 2000 and served until January 2008. The OIC was created in 1969 .

The organization composes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is the OIC's financial organization.

The IDB Board of Managers will hold a summit in Ashgabat in June 2009.
