During a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, Emperor Akihito stressed that "Japan will make every effort for the bilateral partnership to successfully develop."

The Turkmen leader is on an official visit visit in Japan from Dec. 16-18. Several inter-governmental documents and contracts were signed with Japanese companies.

A Turkmen state press service said the emperor considers the visits made by company and state heads to meet with Berdimuhammedov while he is in Japan "a sign of great respect to his guest and Japan's intention to forge perspective and long-term cooperation with his country."

After congratulating Berdimuhammedov on his successful talks with the government, the emperor expressed confidence that the agreements will bring the traditional inter-state cooperation to a new and higher level.

"Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening relations of friendship and multifaceted partnership with Japan as one of the most developed countries in the world," the Turkmen leader said.

He said not only common economic problems unite Turkmenistan and Japan, but also efforts to resolve urgent problems concerning mankind, such as global security.

Cooperation with Japan is a major priority of Turkmenistan's foreign economic strategy, as the country boasts one of the strongest economies in the world.
