One can not extinguish fire occurring in the forest near the village Atskuri of Akhaltsikhe region (Samtskhe-Javakheti, South Georgia). Moreover, it intensifies. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources told Trend that the fight with the flame is complicated by the fact that old firs are burning.
Rescue services and aviation were mobilized.
Over 1,000 rescuers try to extinguish fire in Atskuri. But one can not extinguish the fire. Pockets of fire are located in 5-7 km from the settlements. There is no threat for residents to be injured.
The area covered by flame is unknown. Rescuers fail to enter the forest. Minister of Environment Goga Khachidze is in Atskuri. He controls the liquidation work.
The fire occurred August 4.
