Over 1,400 people intend to become MP in Azerbaijan

So far, 392 peoples have been registered as candidates in parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the Commission’s meeting.

So far, 392 peoples have been registered as candidates in parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the Commission's meeting.

"Over 1,411 candidates, ready to compete for MP mandate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, appealed to the district election commissions, 1,369 of which received subscription lists in the CEC," Panahov said.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.

At present, the CEC registered 973 local observers to monitor the elections.

Some 2,088 observers from political parties and blocs appealed to the district election commissions.
