Interior Minister of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov on Thursday received the Head of the Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Ambassador Audrey Glover, the press service of Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry reported.

Greeting the guests, Ramil Usubov provided detailed information on measures taken to protect public order, and on the challenges faced by the police during the election period and in the elections. According to him, the Interior Ministry has prepared a special action plan to prevent breaches of law during the election period and in the elections, to ensure the electoral process as required by law in a secure and democratic atmosphere.

According to Usubov, during this period the primary responsibility of the police is to ensure safety of voters, polling stations and candidates. According to him, all the obligations stipulated by law will be executed impeccably. Usubov also said that during the election campaign, another major responsibility of the Ministry is to ensure citizens' identity cards. The necessity was mentioned to identify persons who reach 18 years of age on the election day. According to the minister, the work of identifying these persons and issuing them identity cards is carried out by the Ministry. The Minister said 99 percent of this category of citizens has already received documents proving their identity.

Audrey Glover thanked for providing detailed information and the measures taken by the interior agencies in connection with the preparation for elections.
The meeting also covered other issues of mutual interest.
